DOUGLAS COUNTY HB581 OPT OUT
The Douglas County Board of Commissioners would like to announce that it plans to opt out of the homestead exemption offered by House Bill 581.
HB 581, passed by the Georgia General Assembly in 2024, introduces a floating statewide homestead exemption that limits increase in taxable home values to the prior year’s inflation rate.
The law allows local governing authorities to opt out of the homestead exemption following three public hearings. Douglas County Board of Commissioners has scheduled the Public Hearings for January 23, 2025, 6:00pm, February 4th, 2025, 10:00am, and 6:00pm February 18, 2025, in the Citizens’ Hall at Douglas County Courthouse, 8700 Hospital Drive GA 30134.
Following the public hearings, the Douglas County Board of Commissioners will vote on the resolution to opt out of HB 581 at the February board meeting before the March 1, 2025, deadline.
